Ensure your Website is Search Engine Optimized (SEO)
Not many of us are experts in HTML and web design. There are literally hundreds of companies out there offering “search engine optimization” for your website for a fee. But what does this mean?
Your site needs to be search engine friendly, meaning that your site’s structure and content should be created so that you get satisfactory rankings in search results. Keyword density, file naming, proper directory structure and meta tags are all important factors when it comes to pleasing search engines.
Are you confused yet? Meta what, you say? Basically, if you can create a site without using elements – such as Flash splash pages – that make it difficult for search engines to index your site, and you select and properly place powerful keywords, your site should do pretty well in ranking with your chosen search engines.
If you are a do-it-yourselfer, try the book “Search Engine Optimization for Dummies.” Seriously. It is a fantastic guide for even the most non-technical person to the perplexing world of website marketing.
